Abstract [en]
The most interesting song on the Opus3 record is “Tell me if you can” written by Tony Sheridan and Paul McCartney. The song is most likely never released before. Sheridan performs on two more songs on the album and the other songs have vocal performances by other Opus3 artists.
The purpose of the recoding was that Sheridan had a large number of songs either previously not recorded or not professionally recorded.
At the time of his death in 2013 both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr posted on social media. McCartney posted on his website: "Tony was a good guy who we knew and worked with from the early days in Hamburg. We regularly watched his late night performances and admired his style. He will be missed."
Tony Sheridan was famous because of records as "Just a little bit of Tony Sheridan" (1964) and for being the role model to The Beatles regarding stage performance. The Beatles met Sheridan in Hamburg for the first time in 1960 and during the bands second trip to Hamburg they occasionally performed with Sheridan on stage.
In June 1961 Sheridan and The Beatles recorded for the first time. This recording session resulted also in a single released by Polydor in Germany with the songs “My Bonnie” and “The Saints”. The artists on the record are credited as Tony Sheridan and The Beat Brothers. This single got to be very popular in The Beatles hometown of Liverpool and led to the interest of their future manager Brian Epstein.
In 1964 Sheridan and The Beatles recorded for the last time in Hamburg. Later an album from this session was released as “The Beatles’ first”.
