Abstract [en]

Demand Response (DR) is considered an effective mechanism by utilities worldwide to address demand supply mismatch and reduce energy consumption, peak load and emissions. Consumer participation is central to realize the full potential offered by DR programs. The communication between a utility company and consumers participating in DR is through DR messages. However, despite the importance of DR messages in the context of residential DR programs, only a limited number of relevant experimental studies have been reported in literature so far. To address this gap, in this paper, we report findings from 6-month long DR field trials involving residential participants in Lulea, Sweden. The trials specifically focus on four aspects related to DR messages - notification mechanism, message type, associated incentive, and participation feedback. The primary outcome of these trials is a set of guidelines and recommendations for design of effective DR programs.

Från ansökan: "Projektet skall via användarmedverkan, med skolungdomar och lärare på Tunaskolan i Luleå, kombinerat med smart IT och design av nya innovativa sätt för visualisering utveckla nya metoder för att minska energiförbrukningen. Projektet bygger vidare på resultat och samarbeten med både nationella och internationella EU projekt inom området energibesparing med fokus på användarmedverkan.Vi vill tillsammans med skolungdomar, morgondagens beslutsfattare, och via deras "normala" kommunikationsvägar (Internet, Web 2.0, Facebook etc) sprida och engagera om energi och miljö. Genom att bygga demonstratorer vill vi lära oss hur och vad man bör fokusera på för att både spara energi men även bidra till en större medvetenhet för områdena. Vi vet att ungdomar idag mycket snabbare sprider "god" information och huvudfokus för projektet är att tillsammans med ungdomarna förstå vad och på vilket sätt energiutnyttjandet skall visualiseras för att "nå ut" och spridas.Vårt mål är att engagera skolan, elever, lärare och besökare, till att bidra med idéer för hur man kan spara energi och värna om miljön. Tillsammans med projektdeltagarna kommer nya Internet-baserade applikationer attutvecklas för visualisering av i realtid uppmätt energiutnyttjande. Tillvägagångssättet kommer vara baserat på att genom korta och snabba iterationer sätta nya versioner av de utvecklade applikationerna "i händerna" påungdomarna som varit med och designat själva hur applikationerna ska se ut för att presentera energiförbrukning på ett enkelt sätt.Vi avser också att via medverkande företag, baserat på resultat i projektet, utveckla nya affärer och vi kommer kontinuerligt under projektet att sprida information om framsteg via Internet, konferenser samt andra samarbetsprojekt.

Abstract [en]

Environmental issues are a reoccurring discussion topic among politicians, researchers and citizens all around the world. Climate changes and pollution are both important issues that need to be dealt with to slow down their impact. Within the IS area, the acknowledgement of these issues has been slow, and it is now time to start contributing. In this paper an illustration of an approach to user interaction for energy saving is given. We present a research project in which a visual energy information system has been co-created and installed in an elementary school. The effects of the system on the pupils and staff energy consumption behaviour are evident. The school have save approximately 20% on lightning in their classrooms. Based on the pupil’s feedback during the project, we present five factors that are important to consider when designing energy visualisations.

Abstract [en]

This article describes a case-study related to on-line condition monitoring measurements in process industry. A platform for on-line, real-time and remotely operated condition monitoring has been developed. The system consists of an open source based embedded and cost effective DSP computing platform, a machine vision sensor for solid debris analysis of oils, and interfaces for other measurement technologies (e.g. vibration analysis and/or temperature measurements). In addition, the platform is equipped with data transmission interface that enables remote operation and control. Real-time analysis of solid particles in oil is useful in many preventive condition monitoring applications, for example, in the lubrication circuit of a paper machine or with cold rolling lubrication oils. In the case of a paper machine the generated information can be used to pinpoint upcoming failures in the machine elements (e.g. bearings, gears etc.). Whereas in the case of cold rolling applications the information is useful to prevent quality problems in the rolled metal product. In the both applications the presented system enables also monitoring failures in the filtration system. Preliminary results and designs show that the system is able to detect and analyse size and shape for particles larger than 50 micrometers continuously with a frame rate of 5 Hz from the oil flow volume of 13.8 ml/s and flow speed of 60 mm/s. The system is in progress of being further developed in collaboration with the industry. Easy integration of different sensors and real-time measurements make the system a powerful tool for making maintenance decisions in process industry

VISION Genom samverkan med initiativtagare runt TSS-konceptet skall projektet ha bidragit till att göra E45’an till en europeisk ”Test Route”. Infrastrukturen skall erbjuda testmöjligheter av fordon i en mix av 2G, 3G, WLAN, WIMAX, NMT 450, o.s.v. Projektet skall skapa ett tydligt partnerskap mellan regionens entreprenörsdrivna mindre företag och de stora aktörerna inom två av svensk industris kärnområden (fordonsindustrin och telekomindustrin). BAKGRUND Centrum för Distansöverbryggande Teknik, ”CDT”, och Centre for Automotive system technology and Testing, CASTT, vid Luleå Tekniska Universitet, har den 1/1 2008 startat upp mål2-projektet ”den Intelligenta Inlandsvägen”. Övergripande mål är dels ett heterogent nät i form av en demomiljö med flera typer av transmissionstekniker, dels ett antal utvecklingsprojekt, med sikte på att bygga kunskap, teknik och metod som stödjer den vintertestrelaterade verksamheten inom denna demomiljö. PROJEKTSTRATEGI Ett samarbete med näringslivet både regionalt och nationellt skall säkra att framtagna prototyper tar sig ut på markanden som produkter och tjänster. Kopplingar till nationella projekt inom fordonsindustrin, inte minst Test Site Sweden, säkrar att utvecklingsinsatserna leder till ett vidgat nätverk för aktörerna inom vintertestregionen.
