Development of a Bluetooth telephone node for MOST
2004 (engelsk)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
Abstract [en]

The infotainment section is very important for the experience and impression of a car. New technologies are added to cars every year to make them more attractive. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that can fulfil many of the goals of an automotive manufacturer in the premium segment, i.e. Volvo Car Corporation. Up to 60% of mobile phone calls today are made from cars [19]. This involves a security risk if the user has to use one hand to hold the cellular phone and therefore loose concentration from the driving. This is solved by the technique called hands-free. In many parts of the world it is forbidden to use a phone without hands-free technology in a car. The hands-free makes it possible to use the car’s microphone and speakers while making a phone call. Current handsfree technology uses a cable connected to the cellular phone, or an integrated phone. There are some drawbacks with these approaches, for example that the cable connection is mobile phone specific for each brand, and the integrated phone requires an extra SIM card. The Bluetooth hands-free solution solves these problems. Bluetooth is a standardized technology that makes all mobile phones with hands-free able to communicate with the car. The phone can then be controlled by the control panel in the car and the phone itself can be left in a pocket or bag and still be accessible. The Bluetooth technology is very flexible and can be used for a wide range of applications, which can lead to a valuable increase of the communication facilities of the car. This project is aimed at developing a functional demonstration node for a MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) network, which has grown popular for the infotainment section in cars. The implementation serves as a test console for a Bluetooth hands-free application HMI. It also includes studies for other applications of a Bluetooth node in an automotive environment.
