Mobile cloud storage support in the browser
2010 (engelsk)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
Abstract [en]

With the number of mobile devices growing rapidly more and more people can connect to the internet by WiFi hotspots, UMTS and other high speed internet connections. Everyone seems to be always online these days. Web applications for checking e-mails, reading RSS-feeds or word processors for writing and editing documents simultaneously with colleagues or friends are becoming increasingly popular. Further, with new concepts like Cloud Com- puting and Cloud Storage it is becoming more reasonable to store produced data on a more available and sharable web space. But if the user goes offline or loses the internet connection, he can neither check e-mails nor work on his online document with a preferred online word processor nor is he able to access data residing in the storage cloud. This thesis will investigate the pos- sibilities of using Web applications offline on mobile devices while temporarily being disconnected from the Internet. A comparison of key technologies like AtomDB, Dojo Offline, Gears and the current working draft of HTML5 is accomplished. The next HTML5 specification will offer several advanced techniques for providing client-site storage which are very important for many web developers. On the basis of several demo applications these features will be shown. The thesis will also present an idea to overcome the issue of limited storage capability of mobile devices by using the concept of Cloud Storage.
