Abstract [en]

The essay examines the importence of architecture in gothic texts by Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson and Angela Carter. The examination which is based on the texts The Fall of The House of Usher, William Wilson, Legia, and The Pit and The Pendulum by Poe, The Haunting of Hill House, by Jackson and The Bloody Chamber by Carter focuses on both external and internal architectural features. The essay also links physical features and human emotions to the presence of architecture in the various texts.
