Analog signal acquisition from ABS/VSC braking systems
2005 (engelsk)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 poäng / 30 hpOppgave
Abstract [en]

The time allocated to design and develop a new car has decreased considerably during the past two decades. This has been achieved with the advent of CAD and therefore all the parts of the car could be simulated before anything is built. Safety control systems, such as ABS and VSC, have entered this virtual world. The dynamics of a moving vehicle can be simulated, as well as the internal behavior of the system. This document is all about how to measure electrical currents in an ABS/VSC braking system. The goal is to improve a Matlab/Simulink model of the hydraulic valves in the braking system. To catch the dynamic of the valve, there is a need to know the magnetic force acting on the valve body. If the current is known, and thereby the force through a transfer function or lookup table, it is possible to model the valve body as a damped suspended mass. Solving the differential equation of that second order system would give the position of the mass, in this case the position of the valve body. Knowledge of the valve body position gives the possibility to model the variable hydraulic resistance caused by the opening and closing dynamics of the valves. This document also describes how to build an electronic system capable to obtain foundation brake system information for vehicle performance verification. This system is able to communicate with other measurement units commonly used for brake performance testing within TRW. The unit is also able to act as a stand alone, universal measurement unit together with Matlab. Finally different methods for current measurement are discussed and a description of how to modify a standard ECU to give a voltage output that is proportional to the current flowing through the actuator coils for the hydraulic valves.
