Optimal product structuring with respect to the tender process
2001 (Engelska)Självständigt arbete på avancerad nivå (yrkesexamen), 20 poäng / 30 hpStudentuppsats (Examensarbete)
Abstract [en]

Today there is an increasing demand for individually tailored products with short delivery times. This demand can be satisfied with configurable products, which easily can be customized according to customer specifications. At Ericsson a configurable product is denoted product package. The purpose of the thesis is to examine how product packages are used in the tender process and how they should be used. The purpose also includes reviewing the information systems supporting the tender process, suggesting how the maintenance of product information should be performed in the future and listing requirements on product packages from a sales perspective. To fulfill the purpose of the thesis a broad literature study of internal material, deep interviews with people operating in the tender process, information system experts and product structure developers, has been accomplished. This material together with literature research in the areas has been the base for the conclusions that has come out of this work. The results of the study indicate that the understanding of product the package concept should be increased, the separation of the commercial and supply views should be clearer, the co-operation between market units and product units should be enhanced and the tendering of new products should be supported. It is also important to improve the coordination and communication at the product units, facilitate product selection and product configuration, change the maintenance organization, coordinate the overall structure of the product catalogue, increase the update frequency of the product catalogue and improve the designation of products. It is our hope that our thesis will be of use to the organization and that the work can be used at Ericsson. Our results will hopefully increase Ericsson competitive edge further.
