This report describes the process and result of the development of a new kind of travel cover for golf bags. The work was done as a 30hp master thesis in industrial design engineering at Luleå University of Technology. The project was done in cooperation with the Norwegian company Db equipment AS and lasted from September 2014 to January 2015.The idea with this project was to come up with a concept on a new kind of travel cover for golf bags. The aim with this new concept was to make it easier for golfers to travel with their equipment. Today’s travel covers are often big and heavy which makes them hard to handle and they take up a lot of space when not in use. To make it easier for golfers these problems had to be solved and the goal was to end up with a concept that did that and still was simple to use and good looking.The project started with some data collection. This was made to get an understanding of the market and to see what the intended customers wanted from their travel covers. To collect this data research on the internet was done and also a survey for golfers was carried out. This resulted in an understanding on what the main problem with today’s travel covers was. The most important features people were asking for was that the travel cover should protect the golf equipment inside and it should be easy to handle. This together with some other features were the main focus during the whole project.To solve these problems lots of different concepts were made. These concepts were then evaluated and discussed with Db Equipment AS to make sure that the project continued on the right path during the whole process. Some concepts were taken to further development, via different design methods, and finally the project ended up with one final concept.The final result of the project was a concept of a new kind of travel cover that should make traveling with golf equipment easier and more pleasant. The concept is presented with computer renderings and sketches to describe all the functions and technical solutions.
