Abstract [en]

In the light of the narrow focus in Western innovation policies andtheories – mainly prioritising men-dominated and symbolically masculinespheres – the need for increased inclusiveness in innovation regarding socialaspects such as gender has been stressed. In order to expand the existing bodyof knowledge on innovation and to inform the design of more inclusiveinnovation policies, this article elaborates ‘gendered social innovation’ as atheoretical lens for scientific analysis of innovative transformation of genderedstructures in organisations and society. This is attained by a conceptual study, merging key elements from three sub-fields of innovation studies: inclusiveinnovation, social innovation and gendered innovation. The proposedelaboration of gendered social innovation encompasses the identification ofunsolved societal challenges of gender inequality and unmet needs amongwomen or men as underrepresented or disadvantaged groups in various areas, motivating the development of new solutions by inclusive innovationprocesses.
