Abstract [en]

Even though snow is dominating the hydrological cycle in Sweden for half of the year, relatively few studies on the snowmelt runoff in urban areas have been carried out. Modelling snowmelt runoff is complex and involves modelling of processes like snowmelt at the top of the snowpack, infiltration of meltwater into frozen ground and surface runoff at the base of the snowpack on nonpermeable surfaces. In order to investigate the urban snowmelt-runoff process an urban hydrologic catchment has been established. The present paper presents the result from the first year of the study. Data from the 1983 snowmelt period are analysed with respect to maximum snowmelt rates, peakflows and area contributing to the runoff
