Abstract [en]
The purpose of this study was to examine how teachers used the information and communication technology (ICT) to make school education available to all students and their idea of what role ICT had in student learning and achievement. The starting point was the Swedish National efforts made in teacher training in the field of ICT and the effect it produced, and previous research. The theoretical approach was based on a socio-cultural learning. Four teachers from different school organizations were interviewed. The results showed that the teachers primarily associated with computers and ICT, in particular related to reading and writing process. Their general impression was that ICT increased motivation of students, created a better quality of pupils’ work and gave the condition for many students with difficulties in achieving its objectives. All teachers had participated in some form of training for ICT, which resulted in significant developments in their reasoning and education. The teachers also expressed an awareness of the technology's untapped potential.
