Abstract [en]

Background: During adolescence major changes occur in a person´s life , both physically and mentally. Friends and school is a central part of everyday life in this phase of life. The purpose of this study was to examine young people's views on friendship relations linked to their own perceived well-being. Methods and participants: Paper Survey, comprising a total of 19 questions about relationships and well-being. 16 claims and three open questions. Participants: Two secondary school students, grade 3. Boys and girls, 18-19 years. A total of 57 students in the survey, with 40 boys and 17 girls. Data analysis: From the survey a total of 16 questions four pieces then forwarded for further analysis. Chi2 tests (Chi-square test) was then made between these 4 statements, 2-and-2, to find out if there was any connection between the allegations. The tests were performed at a significance level of 95% (P <0.05). The three open questions studied by content analysis where meaningful units, keywords and concepts sorted out, reviewed and interpreted to have a greater depth of the survey's full results. Results: The survey clearly showed that friendships are very important for young people's perceived well-being, a several of the participants stated that life would feel useless without friends. To have a few close friends were under the most important than having many superficial friends and the largest number also showed that these young people were satisfied with his buddy intercourse. The concepts of health, wellness and well-being were described in the open questions as conditions that made the participants feel good both physically and mentally. Some participants also raised the importance of taking care of, and enjoy, themselves and their surroundings. Both social and emotional aspects of what was contributing to wellbeing appeared in the answers. Except for friends and relationships, diet and exercise were also the factors that young people related to the concept of health. Conclusion: Friendships is very important for young people's well-being. Young people is a vulnerable group which is easily affected by their surroundings and their relations. Having a social network and a sense of coherence was resported as being important for well-being in the group studied.
