”En bra roman kan rädda liv”: Metodik och anpassning i arbetet med fiktioner i gymnasieskolan
2014 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to find out how teachers in the upper secondary school in Sweden works with fictions of different kinds and if these work procedures differ depending on if the teaching take place in a vocational programme or a higher education preparatory programme. Four active teachers were interviewed on the basis of a semi-structured interview guide. The result shows that the teachers have abandoned the old traditional work procedures where one often worked in chronological order and where the pupils got to write reviews. Today, focus is on finding themes, connecting fictions to the society's evolvement and the pupils' own lives and experiences and also analyzing fictions through group discussions, alternatively whole class discussions. The film's role in school has been given a higher status and the film's language has received space in the education. Adaption in education occurs on the individuals' terms and less based on what programme they are reading. Fictions have a central role in school and are used to help pupils both develop as humans and to understand the society we are living in.
