The aim of this study was to identify and describe experiences and perceptions of how the Internet can support an enacted togetherness among elderly people. To answer the aim of the study a qualitative content analysis was conducted of data collected via focus groups. Via a retirement organization twelve participants were recruited, they were divided into three focus groups and each group was interviewed on two occasions. The analysis resulted in three categories; Resources and constraints for access to an enacted togetherness via the Internet, The Internet as a means and opportunity to an enacted togetherness and The meaning of being a part of an enacted togetherness via the Internet. The result showed the importance of overcoming difficulties and having access to resources, an important aspect was that the social environment could influence and enable access to an enacted togetherness via the Internet. The Internet could be a means to find and maintain togetherness despite of distance. An enacted togetherness via the Internet provided opportunities to share and be a part of everyday activities with others. The Internet provided another kind of togetherness, the Internet was also a way to participate in everyday life and in society in general. Conclusions that can be drawn from this study was, elderly people needed knowledge and being able to feel secure to be a part of an enacted togetherness via the Internet. The Internet was a tool for and a complementary way to participate and contributed to reduced feelings of loneliness and isolation. Being part of an enacted togetherness via the internet contributed to increased participation and togetherness with others among elderly people.
