Differential Gröbner bases

Abstract [en]

In this thesis the theory of differential Gröbner bases is investigated. The field of Gröbner bases is still under active development both in the direction of improving the method by new theoretical insights and in finding new applications. The concept of Gröbner bases was introduced by Bruno Buchberger, who also gave an algorithm to construct Gröbner bases. Many differential analogues to Buchberger's algorithm have been developed since and this thesis focuses on describing the Rosenfeld-Gröbner algorithm for generating differential Gröbner bases. In addition, the basic concepts of differential algebra that are needed for understanding the theory behind the Rosenfeld-Gröbner algorithm is shortly described and an example of using the algorithm in Maple is given where a system of polynomial differential equations is solved.
