Abstract [en]

The Swedish Health insurance changed in 2008 (SFB; 2010:110), and would with the new direction to get more sick leave to join the workforce and reduce the number of benefit recipients who are unable to contribute to government finances. This resulted in increased demands to be on sick leave and also those who were already in an ongoing sick leave. Increased resources were at the job center to increase the possibility for so-called vocational rehabilitation and assessment of work capacity. This paper is made with qualitative approach and interviews, the aim of the study is to find out the experience of transition from long-term sickness and work-oriented rehabilitation and describes opportunities for informants to return to work. Six interviews were conducted with individuals who recently started the vocational rehabilitation of the company working resource. The interviews were carried out by open questions and created a vivid narrative of informants. The encoding of the material was based on the basic concepts of Antonovsky's SOC (Sense of Coherence) theory (Antonovsky, 2005) to create an overall picture of the informants' lives and follow the individual's entire history from workers for sick leave and on to a possible return to work. The results of the interviews are explained by using Antonovsky's SOC and salutogenes (Antonovsky, 2005) and empowerment as an approach (Askheim, 2007) and also the importance of generalized others (Mead, 1976) in their environment. The result shows that these respondents perceive the activities as positive, despite their illness and that they are willing to try to find a job that they can cope with. The importance of purpose and belonging, as well as routine and structure are noted by the factors that influence an individual's motivation to do paid work in addition to the economic situation. Individual empowerment is discussed in the discussion section. If we increase our understanding of the individual's situation today, and their history, we can safeguard their motivations to find some ability, which could eventually develop into one work."We will all die. And we are all, as long as the minimum life of us, in some sense healthy "(Antonovsky, 2005, p 28).
