En trist turist - eller ett fulländat mästerverk?: En kvantitativ studie av 20 filmrecensioner från Dagens Nyheter och Moviezine

Abstract [en]

Best picture and The audience-price are two categories awarded at the annual Swedish filmgala ”Guldbaggegalan”. The two categories have reached our interest, and our will to reveal how the critics review the movies depending on what type of movie the review is about. The movies nominated for Best picture are mostly considered high culture and the movies nominated for The audience-price is mostly considered to be popular culture movies. What type of themes are the reviewers using to demonstrate their amount of cultural capital in there views? Do they use ”high-art” themes for ”high-art” movies, and “popular culture” themes for ”popular culture” ones? As speculated many times before, the term “taste” is a difficult term to define. Pierre Bourdieu has mentioned at least two different types of taste; the fine taste and the barbarian taste. The purpose of this essay is to try to figure out how two Swedish magazines expresses their taste in movies according to their amount of cultural capital within the field of cultural journalism. We have analyzed 20 movie reviews from the newspaper Dagens Nyheter and Moviezine, amovie portal online, from the years 2010, 2012-2015 with a quantitative method to search for the answer. The reviews were studied using a number of variables, some of them represented the high culture themes, and some represented the popular culture themes. The result shows that the operators does not dispose their texts very different, despite their different amount of cultural capital.
