Virtual private networks and multi protocol label switching

Abstract [en]

The goal for this work is to explore Virtual Private Network (VPN) technologies and to develop an IP VPN prototype in a Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network. To limit the task, the network topology and forwarding are considered static. The prototype developed is a routed network based solution, referred to as a Virtual Private Routed Network (VPRN). The new VPN functionality was added to the edge nodes in the network. I used a simulated edge, which makes the modification easier. The additional functionality is written in C. ATM is used as link layer technology.
