Engineering design in construction is time and resource intensive and designers often face the task of designing almost the same solution in different projects. It is common to copy and adapt the production drawings between projects if the solutions are similar.Today, many construction companies have developed their own standards for a more product-oriented and modular construction, especially in residential construction. Many researchers believe that a product-focused approach can streamline construction operations. To investigate whether it is possible to standardize solutions in infrastructure projects a case study was carried out at Tyrens with the aim to develop a configuratorfor the production of specifications of roundabouts.A survey was conducted to evaluate the types of roundabouts that were most commonly be designed at Tyréns. In the design rules of streets and roads, issued by the Swedish Transport Administration, the parameters that determine the design of roundabouts was examined. These parameters was then implemented implemented as rules and domains in the CAD program SolidWorks through its plug-in Tacton Studio. Tacton Studio is used to program the user interface of the configurator.By comparison, the conclusion was that the configurator can produce specifications of about 54% of Tyréns planned roundabouts annually. The time saved annually is 144 hours / year upon full use of the configurator. The result shows that it is possible to implement parameterized standard solutions in infrastructure projects.
