This is a thesis about TV hosts and their self-extradition. The evolution towards more openness about the private sphere means that we soon know everything about the person behind the role. The hosts take place and spreads out, dare to think and talk freely.Based on Jürgen Habermas view of the development of publicity, the author looks at how self-disclosure appears in the presenter’s performance. The study contains two Swedish talk shows, Schulman Show and Hissen, where the author sees episodes, through a rhetorical perspective and seeks for examples of self-disclosure in the presenter’s performance and style. The result shows that the hosts included in the analysis are more or less self-disclosure. Self-extradition moves from deeply personal stories to more construct transparency. Entertainment and emotions take focus from information and facts.The consequence of self-surrender is that the presenter takes up more space and sometimes overshadows other participants. It also provides a sense of intimacy and makes it easier to identify with the presenter, as the presenter becomes more human and multilayered.
