Establishment of Ergonomics Rating System: Drivers’ Wellbeing in the Truck Cab
Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
To get truck drivers to keep their profession for longer, it is important to listen to their opinions. There is currently no evaluation within the ergonomics team at Volvo Trucks that merely focus on the truck drivers’ wellbeing. Today's subjective evaluation takes a lot of time and there are a lot of features to evaluate. The evaluation is based on internal knowledge and not directly based on knowledge and opinions from the drivers. A new evaluation system have been developed, which focus on the truck drivers’ wellbeing. The system has for example been designed to be efficient and easy to use. Two lists of requirements were necessary to come up with a solution - one list for the interface with the ergonomics team’s criteria on the system and another with the drivers’ criteria for their wellbeing in the truck cab. Interviews, surveys and web based information search were made to find the requirements. Finally, concepts were developed in Microsoft Excel according to the requirements. Evaluation of the concepts led to a final concept that consists of two versions.
