Simulations and Product Development to Improve Driveline Induced Vibrations at Low Speed

Abstract [en]

Driveline configuration varies between different trucks. The driveline includes cardan shafts and cardan joints. The joint angles causes disturbing loads in the joints, which might lead to vibrations in the driveline, leading to comfort problems. Every configuration involves a change in the vehicle's normal modes. The driveline must be configured so that the driveline vibrations does not excite the normal modes that connects powertrain and chassis–cab vibrations. The position of the support bearing for the intermediate propeller shaft influences the joint angles. Adams/Car is used to compute transfer functions for disturbing loads on the driveline. The effect of relative yoke angles and support bearing stiffness is studied. An optimized support bearing position is calculated, making use of the transfer functions. A tolerance study was made on the existing support bearing installation. A new concept for an adjustable support bearing plate is developed, that reduce the number of components needed to optimize the cardan joint angles.
