Background: The incidence of Tuberculosis shows an increasing trend in Sweden due to migration. As a step in diagnosing a patient, a chest-x-ray is performed on the patient. Radiology technicians meet these patients in the radiological department. Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe the experiences of the Swedish radiology technicians when taking care of patients with tuberculosis. Method: A qualitative design was chosen and interviews were conducted with radiology technicians. The data collected was analysed with a qualitative content analysis. Results: The analysis resulted in the following five main categories: to prepare trough reading the referral, to apply the hospital’s routines, to use hygienic protective clothing, infectious disease control, to seek knowledge and to develop skills and to handle own thoughts and feelings. Conclusions: We concluded that the text in the referral and hospital’s routine documents are important for the radiology technicians’ ability in the caretaking of patients with tuberculosis. Further the study also shows that the radiology technicians´ were seeking knowledge which is in accordance to the radiology technicians´ competence description. We conducted a study that can be considered hypothesis-generating because it concludes that there is a need for further research.
