2001 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

This thesis aims to investigate risk management in international projects. It is written from the perspective of one international project implemented by two MNCs, one Swedish and the other American. Selected literature in this study covers different categories of risk and different phases of a risk management process. Despite the fact that no general conclusions have been drawn due to the limited sample size, certain factors have been discovered that can build a foundation for further studies. The study shows that the companies collected information regarding possible risk during the project before starting up its implementation. In order to manage project risks the companies worked in close co-operation with each other and utilised the experience of local specialists and consulting companies. Finally, empirical findings show the importance of continuously gathering information and maintaining documentation upon the entire project implementation process.
