Abstract [en]

The increased globalization makes the business environment more competitive and outsourcing is a way for companies to improve their competitiveness. For the outsourcing to work well, it is important that companies know how to manage it. The aim of this master thesis is to gain a better understanding of Swedish companies’ management of outsourcing, especially in regards to the criteria they use for vendor selection, the communication with their employees and how they develop relationships with their vendors. In order to achieve our purpose we have conducted a multiple- case study of three Swedish companies that have outsourced manufacturing. When collecting data, we have used interviews and documentation. From our study we were able to conclude that the companies used several different criteria when selecting vendor and they seemed to have realized the importance of the selection. Our study also showed that the companies paid more attention to what they communicated to the employees than how they did it. Furthermore, the companies in our sample were committed to the relationship, saw to that the outsourcing deal was beneficial for both parties and tried to learn from their vendors.
