Ferruform in Luleå is facing a restructuring of the product range, in which the aim is to reduce the amount of products to a number of core products. This means extensive changes for the production system, some machines will be sold along with products that are no longer manufactured by Ferruform. Parallel with the removal of some products the volume of the core products is plans to increase which means that new equipment must be purchased meeting the growing demand. Part of the restructuring is shifting productionline of the side beams from a rented premises to Ferruforms own facilities. The Manufacturing Linen that is moved into the premises will be needed to be extended with several new machines to meet the planed increased production volume. The purpose of this study is to simulate the expected arrangements for the new side beam department, develop control rules and proportions of the production system. The results of the simulation are then indented to use as a basis for future investment. The simulation of the planned layout were tested in four different simulation cases, which aimed to analyze the supposed layout, design control rules, sizing production system and evaluate the effect of various production changes. After an extensive study conducted on the current production system and the planned production system, a flow simulation in the software Simul8 was created. The results revealed some bottlenecks in the planned layout, some storage areas where to small and between two workstations a storage area where needed. The results showed that the supposed arrangement with 6 machines that punches the hole on the side beam was not enough based on the current machine availability, the products targets would not me meet. To achieve the objectives it was decided that it would be possible to improve the machine availability, instead of buying yet another machine. How this is supposed to take place should be reviewed carefully. As for the design of storage sizes of ämneslagret and sekvenslagret the simulation showed that ämneslagret should be able to contain 750 beams and sekvenslagret should be able to contain 709 beams. The results from the improved formatting rules for kitten showed that the average load in each kit were 8.6 beams.
