A study over Tetra Pak Global Technical Supports stock management system
2002 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Tetra Pak Global Technical Support, TP GTS, is a part of the well-known company Tetra Pak that is developing and supplying complete packaging lines to the dairy and beverage industries. TP GTS main function is to supply Tetra Paks customers with spare parts, service equipment, rebuilding kits etc. The distribution of parts is today mainly done from four centres: a distribution centre, DC, in Lund and three region distribution centres, RDCs, in Singapore, Greenwood USA and Dubai. Lund is the largest centre and also the one who replenish the other centres stock. Many parts exist at all centres, which makes double stock keeping a usual problem. To solve this problem, TP GTS wants to lower their stock level and develop a more useful global supply chain management for parts without affecting the customer service level. The purpose of this study is to map TP GTS present stock management system and give suggestions in how to improve it from a cost perspective without affecting the service level to the customers. Necessary information was collected from interviews, an IPA analysis, theories and a benchmarking. The information was used to map the present situation and to analyse TP GTS problems in the supply chain. This master’s thesis resulted in recommendations in how TP GTS can improve their global supply chain with the result of reduced costs and increased service levels.
