Tillsammans är vi starkare: En studie om motivation till ideellt arbete på en kvinnojour
2016 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Statistics from the National Organization for Women's and Girls' Shelters in Sweden (Roks) show that men's violence against women is a widespread social problem. When abused women need help with shelter, counseling, or in communication, there are shelters in Sweden to help these women and sometimes even children. Women's shelters in Sweden have women who are permanently employed and women who work voluntarily to support abused women and children. What is it that motivates women to emergency volunteering? The study is based on a hermeneutic approach. This means that data is interpreted creating a deeper understanding of the motivation for volunteering. A qualitative research method was used and ten semi-structured interviews were conducted in a women’s shelter. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The data was divided into codes that then formed themes. The result showed that what motivates the respondents to volunteer is the women's community, self-esteem and emotional reward.
