Fandom och upplevelse: En litteraturstudie om hur deltagande i en fandom kan fördjupa upplevelsen av TV-serier, film, böcker och liknande källmaterial
2014 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

TV, film, and literature are all areas that are included in the cultural/creative industries, i.e. industries that somehow revolve around producing experiences. Fandom, although it often builds around source materials such as TV series or books, has never been studied from an experience production perspective. The aim of this study was to examine how participation in a fandom can heighten the experience of the source material. This question was examined through two experience production theories. This first research effort on the combination of fandom and experience production consisted of a literature study. In the background chapter, the experience economy, experience production, and fandom are introduced. The results are presented in the next section – here, the study’s research questions are answered through analysis of the articles chosen for the study. Finally, a discussion follows, where the results are analyzed and further research topics are suggested. This study concludes that fandom can heighten the experience of the source material by increasing the engagement of the person experiencing it.
