Distributed IP traffic generator for QoS performance evaluation

Abstract [en]

The IQ-Man(tm) system built by Operax is an architecture for resource management in IP networks, based on the DiffServ architecture. The purpose of this project is to develop a distributed measurement system for evaluating the QoS performance in an IQ-Man(tm) controlled network. Performance evaluation is done by sending traffic between different nodes in the network according to a specifed scenario, while measuring the performance. The IQ-Man(tm) system is used for reserving resources, in order to receive a better than best-effort service, for some flows. Different types of traffic are resembled using loadable modules incorporating the specific behavior. The work has resulted in a fully functional system, including a few basic traffic type modules. Successful simulations have been carried out in order to evaluate this traffic generator and the IQ-Man(tm) system.
