Abstract [en]

The Swedish building sector is currently estimated to account for 40 percent of the country's total energy consumption and about 50 percent of the total electricity consumption. The authorities as well as the public are starting to demand a more efficient use of energy in our building stock. The building industry is today striving to find methods for both more energy-efficient buildings as well as find methods to reduce construction costs and increase production efficiency. This master’s thesis is rendered for Lundqvist Trävaru AB and discusses how to develop a building system for wooden houses by modular building. The aim of this work is to identify the structural design required to develop a building system for modular building of wooden houses that meets the energy requirements of the building regulations. This thesis is based on earlier development of wall element system for modular building of holiday houses. Technical factors to determine a building’s energy use and the factors used to determine the current moisture condition in the design was identified during the initial literature reviews. The literature review also links to industrial building to identify various building systems. By analyzing a number of house manufacturers in Sweden, structural solutions to construct a building and production strategies have been compiled. These have been the basis for the development of the building system. Seven different kinds of changes have been tested on current construction during the development of the building system. For each change, calculations have been made regarding specific energy use, the average of the transmission coefficient and the distribution of vapor content in each structural element. The ability of Lundqvist Trävaru AB’s building system to competing with other house manufacturers has also been analyzed. The conclusions drawn are that the building system requires further development if Lundqvist Trävaru AB aims to deliver a house that meets the energy requirements according to building regulations and if the energy requirements are met and the building system still holds the flexibility and standardization in the system, there is a high chance that Lundqvist Trävaru AB can find a clientele and compete amongst other house manufacturers.
