A study of J.R.R. Tolkien´s Lord of the Rings and the Swedish translation

Abstract [en]

The aim of this essay has been to apply some linguistic analytic metods to the English and Swedish translation of "Lord of the Rings" and compare it with the English version. This was made in order to test whether the critisism brought upon the Swedish version is relevant. The major issue is the inconsistency in Åke Ohlmarks translation pattern. Another factor is that the overall impression is effected by the fact that the English version has been revised several times. The conclusion is that there is a need for a revised Swedish version, with Ohlmarks translation as a basis.
