A new method for locating the transition temperature in an Ising spin glass model

Abstract [en]

This master of science thesis reports the use of defect energy calculations in Monte Carlo simulations. With aid of this defect energy the transition temperature Tc is determined in both the two and the three dimensional Ising model as well as the correlation exponent. The results are compared with estimations obtained from the Binder cumulant and proves to be of equal accuracy. Further on, a quick test of defect energy simulations as a tool to locate the transition temperature in the three dimensional Ising spin glass model is performed with optimistical results. Indications of a transition temperature near T=1.3 are shown. However, much larger simulations are needed for the Ising spin glass model before any conclusions can be made.
