Separation av etanol från bakugnsgas
2012 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

There is a wish at the bread company Polarbröd AB in Älvsbyn to know if it is technically possible and economically viable to extract ethanol from the gas formed in the baking ovens. To investigate this, samples were taken from the oven gas and analysed with gas chromatography. The samples showed that the gas contained ethanol vapour equivalent to a volume of up to 30 m3 of liquid ethanol each year. The technical and economical viability of separating this ethanol were investigated and shown to be technically possible but economically doubtful with conventional methods. New separation methods under development showed a considerable increase in the potential of an economical separation. As the value of the potentially separated ethanol does not constitute a particular large sum compared to Polarbröd AB revenue the largest incentive to implement separation of ethanol might not be economical but rather the improvement in environmental image that can be attained.
