The purpose of this study has been to examine the essence of the solo cadenza, and from that try to create my own for one of Mozart’s Violin Concertos (no.5 A major, K.V 219). Since making your own cadenza is something not very common today, this thesis also focus on the function of the cadenza and improvisation in classical music. One method being used is, besides the historical view, an analysis of four existing solo cadenzas for the Mozart Concerto. My own process resulted in a recording of the first movement with my cadenza.
