On my own accord, I chose to work with developing a product that divides garlic into smaller pieces for cooking. During a prior project that I was involved in the need for such a product that is easier to use and clean was identified. Interviews were performed and they confirmed the previously identified needs and problems. Information from the interviews was used when the specification of requirements was established. The work was quite iterative in the extent that brainstorming was quickly followed by testing ideas with functional prototypes and then back to brainstorming. An idea matrix was used to choose the optimal concept and interviews were made to pick the final design. The result was a product similar to the classical pestle. It crushes the garlic instead of turning it into purée. It is faster to clean and to use which were two of the most important needs identified during the interviews. It has an original design and does not resemble any other product in this market segment. The result is presented in the form of CAD-models, prototypes and sketches.
