Exploring critical success factors in adopting new technology
2004 (English)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this thesis is to understand what factors influence a successful adoption of new technology for which the consequences, of introducing innovative technology in an organization, are unknown. This thesis deals with all factors that could influence the adoption process, which either has a positive or a negative outcome to its received value. In order to achieve this purpose, two case studies were conducted. These case studies revealed that both companies had different adoption approaches, but had the same critical success factors. The conclusion drawn from this thesis was that companies had a thorough understanding of the innovation and its usage area before adoption started. The investigated companies showed how important it was for an organization to adopt to innovation characteristics rather than having the innovation modified to the current working processes an organization has. Hence the implication for management is to understand their own people, that is, knowledge about what necessary skills are needed for end-users so that the transition is as smooth as possible.
