Abstract [en]

This is a Master thesis for the computer science and engineering programme at Luleå University of Technology. CORBA is a new technology for interprocess communication where processes can reside on the same computer system or can be distributed in a network of computers. This technology is to be used in future mobile networks. The purpose of this project is to evaluate the CORBA technology. What performance can CORBA deliver and how does CORBA use different system resources are the most important questions to be answered. To do this we have constructed a CORBA test-system. With this system several implementations of CORBA have been evaluated with respect of different aspects such as performance, efficiency etc. Among the things we found from the results and analyses of these tests is that performance varies a lot between different implementations, network efficiency can in some special cases be unsatisfactory and programming languages affects performance significantly.
