In the search of alternative ways of representing a surface this report considers wavelet analysis and its applications. Given a set of range data from a physical surface we want to find a mathematical model for it, i.e. reconstruct the surface. Wavelet theory is presented at an introductory level and by performing a wavelet decomposition we can extract the features of a surface at different scales and efficiently reorganize the data. The structure of the wavelet decomposition also makes it possible of enhancing details and/or certain areas of a surface.
