Abstract [en]
In this bachelors thesis we have done a qualitative textual analysis of Landet Brunsås, which is a Swedish television series categorized as infotainment. The goal was to find out if the five rhetorical popular science components, as described by Torsten Thurén in his book Populärvetenskapens retorik -inte bara att förenkla, can be found in the program. The components that Thurén talks about are concrete examples, imaginary conversations, narrative stories, thought experiments and comparisons, as well as analogies and metaphors. We found that each approach can be found as distinct elements in the program. In addition to Thuréns five rhetorical components, we also analyzed the three hosts of the program based on the three rhetorical building blocks: ethos, logos and pathos. We have subsequently undertaken a formative element in which we tested whether we can use the five components to create short scenes that will illustrate a concept or phenomenon from Facebook. We have found that the five popular science components, which are actually developed with written text in mind, provide a good basic tool when writing a TV-script.
