Modelling and Analysis of Steel Laminate with a Core Based on Porous Steel Material

Abstract [en]

Lowering the weight of car components while keeping the energy absorption capacity is of high interest for the car industry and its manufacturers. This work investigates how this can be done by implementing laminates with a porous core represented by the material model Deshpande-Fleck foam in LS-DYNA. Suitable parameters for the material model are derived through numerical compression tests. Further, the material parameters are evaluated by impact analysis of the specific components. The results indicate that it is presumably possible to lower the weight of components while keeping their energy absorption capacity if laminate structure are implemented, within certain limitations. The weight reduction achieved for the component in this work is approximately 10 % lower than in its initial state.
