Brazing of gamma titanium aluminide: flow and bend tests

Abstract [en]

Two different tests have been carried out to determine the quality of different alloys to be used in brazing of gamma-TiAl. One was a gap flowing test, in which a determined amount of metal was applied to two pieces of Gamma Titanium Aluminides separated an increasing gap. After the brazing the phases formed were determined, and the length of the flowing were measured. The alloys used were: TiCuNi-60, TiCuNi-70, TiCuNiZr, Ti-28Ni, Cusin-1-ABA, AMS-4777 and pure Cu. The second test consisted in brazing samples of gamma-TiAl with some alloys, determine the quality of the joint using the four-point bend test technique. For this test, TiCuNi-70, Cusin-1-ABA and AMS-4777 were used.
