1999 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

The deregulation of the energy market has recently started around the world and is leading to increased competition among companies. It is therefore important to determine who the competitors are and their future actions. Our purpose is to describe how to carry out a competitor analysis on service companies in this market and to describe the foreign competition faced by VGS Hydro International in Southeast Asia. VGS has one main foregin competitor, ELIN Energieversorgung. We made a case study on VGS and ELIN and investigated their general characteristics, objectives, competitive and market expansion strategies, as well as strenghts and weaknesses. With the help of these elements, we determined the competitors' overall strategies. Our conclusions include that it is possible to carry out a competitor analysis on service companies in this market and that both companies seem to have equal opportunities to succeed.
