Abstract [en]

Gestamp Hardtech in Luleå is owned by Gestamp Automoción and is a world leading developer in press hardening technology and the manufacture of car components used in the automotive industry. In todays market competition is an extensive concern, therefore it is of the utmost importance to create time-saving work processes.The Tool Development Division at Gestamp Hardtech in Luleå has a long experience in the development and manufacture of hot stamping tools, the production of which requires cross-functional thinking to reduce lead time and maximize quality.The aim with this thesis is to make it easier when designing a new hot stamping tool by creating 3D light-weight models of the newer hardening line presses that can be used as start models. The start models will give the tooling engineer an excellent overview as well as the capacity to test a hot stamping tool in a specific line to ensure that the tools are correctly designed with respect to media couplings, tool heights and etcetera.The thesis initiated with a pre-study where the construction and function of both the hot stamping tools and the hydraulic presses was examined. A thorough study was listed in NX 8.5 help documentations regarding the areas which this thesis would effect, in addition to earlier thesis's that have been enacted at the Tool Development Division. A survey in the form of interviews was conducted with the tooling engineers in which they described the problems and needs they have today.The result of the thesis is a set of CAD-startmodels made of the hardening lines Small- and Medium Line, HL300, HL450 and HL7 created in NX 8.5. The start models have been evaluated throughout the thesis with regards to the demands and requests. The rationale is that the start models will work as a source of information whilst providing a device where the tooling engineer can place a hot stamping tool of choice to check that everything is functioning within the selected press. A further improvement was made to this solution allowing all the start models to easily be compared, alongside each other, in one CAD-part.The result of implementing the start models will be to increase effectiveness and reduce the risk of design failure in the future.
