This is a Master thesis project in Industrial Design Engineering performed by Malin Bygdemo and Sara Eriksson in collaboration with Gestamp HardTech and Luleå University of Technology. This thesis is the final project of the Master Program in Industrial Design Engineering focused on Product Development. The duration of the project has been from November 2012 to March 2013. The project has been performed at the Development Tech Center (DTC) Department and covers the development of a method to increase global feedback from manufacturing plants to the Tech Center. The purpose is to increase feedback and the quality of the work performed at DTC. During this project a number of concepts was developed and these include how to retrieve feedback, how to store it and finally how to use it and draw conclusions. The focus of the concepts feedback area is tolerances.The development of these concepts was done by following a design process that consist of the stages; understand, observe, visualize, evaluate, refine and implement. Observing and analyzing DTC and their working methods gave an understanding of the company structure and the problem. This was summarized in a problem statement; “Results from the manufacturing plant do not reach the engineers at the different Tech Centers”. From this statement the concept development phase was conducted and the outcome was a number of concepts that were evaluated and finally one concept was tested with two real cases. The result of the project is a method that handles feedback. The concept fulfills the three requirements, retrieval, storage and usage of information. The feedback is requested from DTC via the product engineers whom send the request to the Quality Department. The Quality Department in turn fills in the information at a website and then it is stored in a database with global access. From this database the information can be read by the software Project Manager where it also is possible to see which projects have available feedback information. By this method DTC can reuse the information to draw conclusions and learn.
