Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate how licensed staff in the healthcare system experience working with physical activity on prescription (PAP). The method we used was a qualitative interview in the form of personal and telephone meetings. The questions were semi-structured and were directed to various professions in the healthcare system. In total there were seven participants in the study, four physiotherapists, a doctor, a midwife and a district nurse. The material has been transcribed and then analyzed based on a content analysis. The result was shown in the form of four themes: Contribute to motivation, The importance of follow-up, Needed resources and Knowledge is powerful. Physical activity on prescription can in many cases be a driving force for patients to become more active. The follow-up is seen as an important part of PAP, patients are perceived to be more compliant when they know that there is a follow-up. In terms of resources, prescribers feel that there isn’t always enough time to work with PAP to the extent that they would want to. They also want more opportunities for group activities for patients, but this can be seen as difficult from a financial perspective. The existing evidence on physical activity is perceived to add greater weight to the prescription given to the patient. The participants of the study also wish there were more opportunities for knowledge exchange with other prescribers.
