Firefly: Design Concept Development of a Digital Point of Purchase Signage for Draught Beer in the On-Premise
2014 (English)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

Point of purchase (POP) is the place or situation in which a purchase is made, and POP materials are promoting the product’s sale through mediums such as posters, displays and logo printed objects. Dot Design Group wants to take the next step in the visibility brand-ing industry and develop a digital signage for one of their main clients supplying draught beer in Australia. By placing a new type of branding product on a beer font extra attention will be drawn to this area that is one of the first things a patron at a pub will see when en-tering. In doing so with a digital screen there are endless of options in what content can be displayed to advertise draught beer. The aim of this thesis project was to investigate the best way to brand draught beer in the on-premise and to develop a design concept for this idea. Screen suppliers were sourced to find the most suitable screen component according to the client’s requirements. When a display manufacturer was chosen the development of a versatile mounting design concept took place through an iterative design process. By collecting data from how most bars and beer fonts looks like the requirements for the mounting design could be narrowed down to the three most popular fonts. The resulting design concept is a screen with a mounting sys-tem that can be attached horizontally or vertically onto different kinds of beer fonts with rubber clamps. A tilt function for the screen is included with a secure screw lock to ensure an ergonomic viewing angle. This is the basis concept of Firefly that is intended to proceed into the next design steps of detail design and manufacturing after this thesis project.KEYWORDS: Industrial design, digital signage, brand awareness, draught beer
