A coupled solution method to the EHL line contact problem

Abstract [en]

An iterative solution method, refered to as the Block Jacobi method, for the Elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) line contact problem is developed. The Block Jacobi method takes the coupling of the non linear Reynolds equation and the Film thickness equation into account. The coupling to the force-balance equation is however included via an external loop. A linear model problem with properties similar to the EHL line contact problem is also developed. Numerical analysis of this linear model problem are carried out. Some of the properties local to the solution of the EHL line contact problem are obtained from these analysis. The information obtained investigating the model problem provided the information necessary to develop the Block Jacobi method.
