For what services can a WAP user interface be useful?
Independent thesis Advanced level (professional degree), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
The Wireless Application Protocol, WAP, defines a standard architecture and a set of protocols for delivery of wireless information. The purpose is to make Internet services available to wireless devices. These services will be used in small devices with small displays and limited intput devices. The limits in the input device and the display do not allow any large variation of the design of the user interface. The numbers of suitable interaction styles are limited, and it is not desirable to have a lot of pictures, icons or information on the screen. For that reason it is important to keep the WAP user interface design very simple. It must be easy to use, simple to understand and nice to view. The thesis gives brief background information about WAP, discuss aspects of WAP user interface design, and describes the work with an empirical study and the conclusions from that study.
