Web based service for geographical analysis

Abstract [en]

These days, the modern society offers an almost infinite mass of spatial information to its inhabitants. Information that is easy to require but not always to interpret. A number of commercial vendors have developed software enabling geographical analysis to be conducted with a fairly amount of ease. Both laymen and professional can benefit from these tools whether their problems consists of calculating the effect a larger industry have on the environment or simply finding a safe way to the local pub. A problem with these software are however their lack of accessibility. The interface is vendor specific and they lack possibility to perform raster analysis where each pixel has more then one value connected to it. The aim of this projects investigation is to study if a locally produced software can be accessible on the Internet via a common interface. A web service is developed with an interface that follows a common standard. Furthermore a web application is produced that is connected with the web service, enabling an easy interface for the user to conduct his or hers own geographical analysis.
